Koh Lanta is a district (amphoe) which covers all 52 islands in the archipelago plus a small part of the mainland. Koh Lanta Yai is one of the islands within this district. The whole district is subdivided into 5 subdistricts (tambon), which are further subdivided into 37 villages (muban). Koh Lanta Yai has township (thesaban tambon) status and covers part of the tambon Koh Lanta Yai.
